First In, First Out (FIFO)
During a customer audit in April of 2010, Manth Brownell was challenged with a recommendation to implement a First In, First Out (FIFO) system. The system would help keep better control of inventory by stocking product by production run date, meaning that the oldest product ships first.
The project took approximately four months to complete and included several additional smaller projects; relocation of the Final Audit area, relocation of the Drop Zone, a three foot addition to the Shipping area, new lighting, and new shelving. As the pictures show, all product is loaded on one side of the racks, label by month, and picked from the opposite side.
Many Manth Brownell employees played a role in making the FIFO system come to fruition; from Post Production, to Quality, to Shipping, everyone who was involved helped to implement the system a full month prior to the suggested implementation date. “This has truly been a team effort,” said Sue Moore, Manth Brownell’s Quality Manager. “Every person that contributed has helped to make this project a success.”
